EdCi 505-85 Foreign Language Teaching (graduate credit, $86)
Instructor: Joan M. West, Professor, Dept. of Foreign Langs. and Lits.
Course Description, Requirements, and Notes
This Professional Development course has a principal objective of offering foreign language teachers in the state of Idaho the opportunity to earn an academic credit towards on-going professional accreditation. It will also encourage teachers’ involvement in the state organization that represents their subject area and establish what can be developed in future into an on-line resource specific to Idaho teachers.
Enrollees will be required 1) to attend all sessions of the Idaho Association of Teachers of Language and Culture (IATLC) fall conference, including the business sessions of both the general body and the appropriate individual language areas; and 2) after the conference (by December 3) to produce and submit a well organized, viable lesson or supplement specific to foreign language/culture teaching which will be posted to the IATLC website.
Notes
To register: The appropriate form will be available at the conference registration table or enrollees may download a copy of the form at the IATLC website and bring it to registration ready to submit. Please turn the form in at our registration table—do not send directly to the University.
Check list: Enrollees are asked to pick up a check list sheet of sessions attended which they will fill out during the conference and ask presenters of the sessions attended to initial. This sheet should be returned at the end of the conference (instructions will be included on the sheet as to whom).
Submissions from Enrollees: Because this credit will be granted for having completed a certain number of hours of scholarly activity, the course will include a “take-home” component (to be completed and submitted via e-mail by December 3). Basically, enrollees will be asked to combine their established teaching portfolio of lessons with what they have learned at the conference and to compose a lesson or lesson supplement that can be posted to the IATLC website as a resource for all teachers.
